Karen Laneal Peters

Karen Laneal Willingham Peters, 76, passed away September 29, 2020 in St Clair Shores, Michigan. Karen was a loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was born in Cordova, Alabama and lived there till she moved to Michigan, where she lived out the rest of her life with her husband Tom Peters. She had many passions during this time, her family being the biggest but after that it was The Gold Cup hydroplane boat racing in Detroit. Over the years in her support and volunteer work with these races she developed many friends and co-workers that cared very much for her.
With many others who worked the Gold Cup Races, she was known as "72" the nickname given to her by Mark Webber, because she was in charge of the office for 72 hours of the Race. Along with this she was also a big supporter of the Vigilante Motorcycle Club, the main thing was that no matter what she was involved with (her husband, family, boat racing, motorcycles, friends or her job) she was always 100% or full speed with it.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Willie Walker Willingham and Julia Mae Fine Willingham; sisters Gail Pickrell and Sybil Barton; brother Don Willingham and grandnephew Barry Clark.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Tom Peters; a special house mate, Callie (her cat); niece's Donna Clark and Donita Willingham; nephew Jody Willingham (wife Jennifer); grandnieces Shara Legg and Jessica Willingham; grandnephews Jayce Willingham and Larry Clark; and many cousins and friends that will all miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
